In the second episode of Aarhus Walks we invite you to explore Aarhus Ø - floating neighborhood located in the harbor area near the city center of Denmark's second largest city - Aarhus. It is the newest part of the city with very unique architecture, watersport activities and newly completed Lighthouse - 142 m floating skyscraper and Denmark’s tallest residential building designed by Danish architectural studio 3XN and built on the site of a former container terminal. We will also explore the Bassin 7 - the new public zone including the Havnebadet sea bath designed by Bjarke Ingels Group BIG as well as AARhus residential development by the same studio, remarkable Iceberg complex by CEBRA, JDS, Louis Paillard Architects, SeARCH, the Harbour Houses by Adept and more.
Aarhus was originally a Viking settlement and was called Aros. Because of its location, Aarhus has always been an important trades centre both in the Denmark of the Vikings and the Middle Ages.
Nowadays, Aarhus is a young and effervescent city with beaches, woods, UNESCO heritage sites and contemporary architecture. In 2017, it was the European Capital of Culture.
